Thomas Martin
I currently teach printmaking at The Cardiff School of Art in South Wales, UK. Prior to this I was Master Printmaker at The Curwen Studio near Cambridge where I worked with and produced original prints for artists such as Paula Rego, Peter Blake, Patrick Heron and John Holland.
Since coming to Cardiff I have studied on the Master of Fine Art programme where I researched and became inspired by artists involved in the Op-art, Constructivism, Colour-Field and Concrete art movements. This led to my passion in creating interactive, perceptual and object based art.
I investigate how the participant uses interaction to manipulate compositional elements in order to reform them into new arrangements. Iām fascinated with the relationship that objects have with the viewer, whether they are contained, archived or interacted with and how they portray a sense of possibility. The viewer becomes responsible for completing my work, thus it can be interpreted in many different ways.
